Do Not Be Alarmed

I've been focusing on getting better at drawing. I think I have a long way to go. I've been going page by page through Jack Hamm's drawing books. And pretty much everything else I can find. I got a bunch of books on Matta. I'm learning from his paintings...

I'm trying to plan paintings out a bit more too. I'm still keeping the spontanious trance painting thing I have going, but I want to have a bit of an idea what I want to do and what colors I'd like. I'll see how that goes. I may not be cut out for under drawings and color sketches... Here is a doodle from the sketch book that I've been trying out as something more. The lower left side isn't done, neither is the ground, nor the head/hand things. I bought the cheapest set of colored pencils the art store had, and apparently it includes only one blue and no bright green. Blah.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. Galina says it's her favorite. Even though she has no idea how it will look.

Here are some squirrels and dinosaurs. And a head. The first squirrel cracks me up. I'm going to try to make something out of him.

And here is a comic Julian drew, my interpretation of it, and a picture of her as a baby.

I have much more, I didn't even get to the actual sketchbooks, but I'm tired and want to relax a bit before I have to go back to work...

Day 2 and the Score is Zero.

I made a little goal with myself. I need to get more work done and hobble together a portfolio. Plus I'd like to learn a lot more about drawing, writing, and painting. So here is a little short term goal I set for myself. The way I see it even if I lose I win. Yay, winning.

Short Term Goal:

30 Paintings
60 Comics Pages
60 Written Pages

Time Period:

31 Jan - 31 March
60 Days
26 Weekend Days

So here is the first round of work.

Lump Lump and Gizmo... Plus a few Birds

Sketches from TV... and a Cat.

I sketched these sitting in front of the tube watching a documentary. Not as easy as it sounds. The pictures go by so fast it's hard to remember what you're drawing... I eventually gave up and drew the smooshed kitty that was on my lap...

Lovebirds

I made this for my wife, Galina. We have two cardinals that take turns eating out of our bird feeders. She always says they are in love... I'm going to color it soon.

A card for my Mom

This was still pretty close to my shoulder surgery, so I couldn't move my arm too much. My hand was very shaky too. I'm surprised it came out as good as it did.

Attack of the Killer Spoons

Still haven't got things just right, but I'm getting better.
